REFERENCE on the product Liquefied Natural Gas – LNG

LNG is a promising source of energy and provides economic and environmental performance relative to other fuels. Currently, international trade of liquefied natural gas there is increasing; it comprises more than 26% of global foreign supply of natural gas, which is 7% of its world consumption.

It is expected that by 2020 this figure will double and go up to 14%. The largest facilities of production of liquefied natural gas are currently located in Southeast Asia, however, their most dynamic expansion is observed in Africa and the Middle East.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is produced from conventional natural gas by cooling to a temperature of minus 161 Celsius degrees. This technology is called the method of natural gas transportation of the XXI century. The volume of natural gas in liquid state is 600 times less than in normal; its specific gravity is two times less than weight of water. Low-tonnage LNG is produced in volumes of not more than 10 tons per hour; it is targeted at domestic market and competes with gasoline, diesel fuel, hard coal and other traditional fuel types, typical for the regions with no main gas supply pipeline. Station for production, refuelling and regasification can be located in close proximity of industrial and residential premises. LNG is odorless, colorless and chemically non-toxic.

LNG has significant advantages over the other energy sources.

Firstly, for supply of liquefied natural gas, there is no need to build and maintain the main gas pipelines system, including in hard-to-reach areas.

Secondly, liquefied natural gas is characterized by higher quality compared to the pipeline one. This is because in the process of liquefying the gas is cleaned from harmful impurities and sulfur compounds, so at the output, almost pure gas with high methane content is produced.

Thirdly, LNG is the most environmentally friendly of the hydrocarbon sources of electricity.

LNG is not a separate product, and only form of natural gas transportation, since in the gas-powered equipment and energy installations of consumers (including internal combustion engine), only regasified LNG is used.

At that the field of LNG use is as wide as of conventional natural gas. These are boiler houses and generating equipment (including cogeneration) and fixed power installations, as well as motor fuel for vehicles. In addition, LNG is very efficient and irreplaceable for motor transport driven at long distances (intercity buses, freight transportation), as well as vehicles located at a considerable distance from gas filling stations (quarry equipment).

Nowadays, jointly with partners, the Global Gas Group Company is experienced in LNG production and regasification, and has technologies and core competencies of the entire LNG technology chain, including supply of commercial gas and natural gas fuel to the end user.

To settle the tasks on development of low-tonnage LNG production and use, the research team of “Gazprom transgaz Yekaterinburg” has developed technology and created a unique process equipment of low-tonnage LNG production and storage. The obtained results allow the company “Global Gas Group” to implement the project of independent and system non-pipe gasification of housing and industrial sectors in the Republic of Kazakhstan. At that, even at the early stages of LNG technology implementation, significant economic effect will be gained to the benefit of consumers and the state budget.
