This past winter in Astana was remembered to citizens for abnormal bitter cold. In January, the cyclone brought to the region a temperature with record low levels, sometimes up to below 40 degrees.
While the capital utility service providers are still preparing to sum up the results, the specialists of the “Global Gas Group”group of companies have already shared the results of their first heating season 2017-2018 in Astana.
“In general, the heating season was performed stably and accident-free. There were no interruptions in gas supply of facilities. I can assert that this fact clearly demonstrates the success of the first and the only project in the Republic of “non-tube” gasification.We carried out timely preparatory works at the facilities, and scheduled preventive works at the LNG regasification complex and the distribution gas pipeline werefully completed. The entire gas infrastructure existing today in Astana is served by the qualified and experienced team of personnel with the total number of 23 people," reported Ulas Kassenov, chief engineer of “Global Gas Registration” LLP.
Taking into account forecasts of consumption, 6700 tons of liquefied natural gas were reserved by producers for the heating season 2017-2018. In total, for the period from 27 September 2017 to 29 April 2018, 350 flights were performed by specialized road trains and 5,950 tons of LNG were delivered to Astana. Therefore, in the past heating season, the total resource base allowed toprovide consumers with natural gas in full, namely with 8,295 million m3.
Peak gas extraction by subscribers peaked in January-February 2018 and amounted to about 3 000 m3/h at the maximum possible capacity of Turan station of 10 000 m3/h.
Since the moment of launch of the station 3 public facilities were gasified – JSC “Nazarbayev University”, JSC "NC “Kazakhstan GaryshSapary”, starting from 03/04/2018, the gas supply commenced to the boiler-house of RSE “National Defense University named after the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan – The Leader of the Nation”. The transfer of heating boiler-houses of only these three facilities from diesel fuel oil to natural gas allowed reducing emission of harmful substances by 23 tons and significantly savingpublic money in the amount of 700 million tenge.
In accordance with the agreements between the Akimat of Astana and “Global Gas Group” on gasification of the capital, in 2018 it is planned to transfer from diesel to gas fuel a number of large enterprises located on Turan Avenue: Intellectual schools, Alau, Astana arena, Barys arena, Velotrek, the Hospital of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Airport named after Nursultan Nazarbayev (civil and military sector), the Perinatal center and the Center of medico-sanitary rehabilitation. In accordance with experts' forecasts, the implementation of these plans will save another 2.2 billion tenge in a year and will allow investing these funds in socially important sectors of the economy. For example, total volume of saved funds could fully cover costs of construction of three secondary schools, each with 1,200 study places.

However, despite the irrefutable economic benefits for a consumer and the environmental benefits for ordinary people, we are faced with difficulties and, at times, even with confrontation. Our specialists work every day to ensure that blue fuel appears in each boiler-houseas quickly as possible: scrupulously developed technological and business processes allowed carrying out our first municipal heating season at an adequate level. Tomorrow we have the opportunity to upscale this experience across the entire Northern region. Moreover there is a significant experimental and resource base for the purpose”, – concluded the Director of “Global Gas Group” LLP Panayet Saulidi.
